Use blogging and social media to increase website traffic
Most business owners are looking for ways to increase traffic to their websites. You hear a lot of buzz about the importance of social media - but how can it help the small business owner with limited resources and even more limited time? Which tools provide the greatest results? How often is it necessary to: write a blog post, tweet on Twitter, update Facebook, or network with LinkedIn?
The short answer is the more new, relevant things you do the better, but small consistent steps will pay off in the long run.
You don't have to be an expert in your field, you just have to know something of interest to your followers. A Hubspot study showed that companies that blogged had 55% more traffic to their website, than companies that did not have a blog. That's not necessarily cause and effect, but many companies would be thrilled with a portion of that increase in traffic.
If having your own blog is more commitment than you can make right now, consider being a guest blogger. You can still have a link to your website, and start getting your name known. Many bloggers would be happy to have someone fill in for them on occasion.
In a future issue we will talk about Twitter, LinkedIn and other types of social media.
